Sri Dakshinamurthy Puja is the most auspicious worship that bestows wisdom, intelligence and self-knowledge. Dakshinamurti Vishishtha

"Dakshina" means wisdom or intellect, "Amurti" means formless. It means the one who has the form of knowledge. He sits facing south, hence he is called "Dakshinamurthy".

Puja Process

Dakshinamurthy Puja is usually performed on Thursday.

Meditation: Before starting the pooja one should visualize the form of Swami in the mind. He sits under a banyan tree (Vata tree) and wears a chinmudra.

Abhishekam: Abhishekam is done to the Lord with panchamrits or pure water.

Decoration: Dakshinamurthy is very fond of yellow clothes and yellow flowers (Chamanthi or Tangedu). Garlands of yellow horns are also offered.

Mantra Recitation: In this puja the "Dakshinamurthy Ashtakam" or Moola Mantra is recited.

Mula Mantra: "Om Namo Bhagavate Dakshinamurthaye Mahyam Medham Prajnaam Prayachha Swaha"

Offering: Offering of chickpeas (sprouted or boiled) is most important in this puja.

 

Dakshinamurthy Dhyana Slokam

Reciting this sloka during pooja gives special results:

"Gurave sarvalokanam bhishaje bhavaroginam | nidhaye sarvavidyanam dakshinamurthaye namah ||"

 

When should it be performed?

Thursday: Thursday is the most auspicious day of the week for Dakshinamurti.

Guru Poornami: Performing this pooja on the next Guru Poornami of the year will give you crores of results.

Month of Kartika: Special worship is also done in the month of Kartika as it is an embodiment of Shiva.
