About This Puja

The Maha Mrityunjaya Homam is one of the most powerful and effective Homas in Hinduism. It is a yagna performed in the name of the Supreme Lord Shiva (Mrityunjaya - the conqueror of death).

Here is a complete explanation of this Homam:

Specialties of Mrityunjaya Homam

"Mrityunjaya" means victory over death. Devotees believe that this Homam acts as a protective shield to prevent premature death and recover from chronic illnesses.

Benefits of Homam

  • Health: Gets relief from chronic diseases. Increases physical and mental strength.
  • Longevity: Gets rid of Apamrutya Doshas (premature death) and attains full life.
  • Protection: The severity of Shani Doshas and Rahu-Ketu Doshas in the horoscope decreases.
  • Peace: Gets rid of fears and brings peace of mind.

Important Mantra

The Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is mainly recited in this Homa:

Om Trayambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam |

Urvarukamiva bandhanan Mrityormukshiya Maamrutat ||

Meaning: We worship the three-eyed, fragrant, and all-sustaining Lord Shiva. Just as a ripe cucumber is separated from its pod, we should be freed from death (the bondage of samsara), but not from moksha (immortality).

Homa Process

Maha Mrityunjaya Homam is usually performed in the following steps:

  1. Anujna & Sankalpa: Seeking divine permission to begin the puja and stating the sankalpa for the reason for which the homa is being performed.
  2. Ganapati Puja: Worshipping Lord Ganesha first to ensure that any event takes place without any obstacles.
  3. Kalasha Sthapana: Invoking Shiva and other deities into the kalash.
  4. Japam: Chanting the Mrityunjaya mantra for a specified number of times (usually 108 or more).
  5. Pradhan Homa: Offering various materials like ghee, Durva grass (garika), Amritavalli (thippathiga), milk, curd and sesame seeds in the sacred fire while chanting the mantra.
  6. Purnahuti: The main offering offered at the end of the Homa.

When to perform it?

  • Auspicious days: Monday, Masa Shivaratri, Maha Shivaratri or on the day of the birth star.
  • Time: Morning (Brahma Muhurta or sunrise time) is the most auspicious.

This Homa is usually performed as a peace ceremony on the advice of astrologers in cases of serious health problems or when there are Gandas.

This Homam puja phal is performed by the affiliated priests in a traditional, pure manner, exclusively online in the name of the devotees. The video recording of the complete Homam is sent to the devotees' WhatsApp.
